Program History:
The program started in 2019 as a pre-arrest Diversion program. Door County recognized a need to better reach and serve individuals in our community which prompted a transition in 2024 from Diversion to Deflection.
About:
Door County Deflection is grant funded through the Department of Justice. Deflection is a proactive community approach that addresses public health and safety challenges faced in the community. Deflection seeks to address underlying substance misuse needs and reduce exposure to the criminal justice system by identifying and deflecting at-risk populations toward treatment and recovery services.
Door County Deflection is a voluntary program that offers Participants with substance misuse concerns the opportunity to receive connections to services and resources, at the earliest point possible, to improve their recovery outcomes and mitigate risk of criminal justice system involvement. The program may also be utilized as an alternative to arrest or citation for eligible offenses referred by Law Enforcement.
