DCES responds to an average of 3,500 calls per year with first response support from local EMR groups and Fire Departments. The service is classified as a 3rd municipal service licensed to provide ALS 911 transport. DCES provides EMS to all towns, villages, cities and islands from ambulances and crews based out of the following four stations:

Washington Island:

The Washington Island station is located on Airport Road and is shared with the fire department. This station houses two ambulances, Med 8 and Med 9. One ambulance is staffed with two paid-on-call EMTs/AEMTs 24 hours a day. When a back-up, or second ambulance is dispatched, it is staffed with the closest available EMTs/AEMTs. The primary response area for this station is Washington Island and Rock Island. Patients that require transport to the hospital are taken to Northport via ferry. The patient is then transferred into a mainland ambulance to complete the transport to the hospital.

Sister Bay:

The Sister Bay station is located on Mill Road and is connected to the Sister Bay Liberty Grove Fire Department. This station houses two ambulances, Med 5 and Med 6, and one full-time paramedic crew 24 hours a day. In addition, from May to November, an additional EMT/Paramedic crew staffs the second ambulance during peak hours to accommodate the increased population and call volume. The Sister Bay station’s primary response area is from Egg Harbor and Jacksonport Townships up to Northport, including Chambers Island and numerous other small islands. For critically ill or injured patients, the crews also respond to Washington Island and Rock Island.

Sturgeon Bay:

In early 2018 the DCES central station moved to North 14th Avenue and is connected to the ADRC. This station houses five ambulances, Med 1-4 and Med 10, and two full-time paramedic crews 24 hours a day. The primary response area for the Sturgeon Bay station is from the south county line up to Egg Harbor and Jacksonport Townships. Additional ambulances at the Sturgeon Bay station are staffed as needed and are used for back-up calls and special events throughout the year. The Sturgeon Bay station also houses the Directors office and billing office.

Brussels:

In June of 2018, the DCES south station moved to County Road C and is connected to the Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department – Station 1. This station houses one ambulance, Med 7, and is staffed with two paid-on-call EMTs/AEMTs 24 hours a day. The primary response area for this station is the Brussels, Union and Gardner Townships, as well as portions of Nasewaupee and Forestville. This station is dual dispatched with the Sturgeon Bay station and transports any BLS calls they may respond to. This station and crew are often called upon for stand-by coverage when the full-time paramedic ambulances are on multiple calls at once.

All vehicles and crews are deployed to stations and stand-by locations as needed based on resource availability.
