Dairy Cattle

In an effort to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) (H5N1) in dairy cattle, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is requiring Influenza A testing prior to movement of lactating dairy cattle to fairs or exhibitions effective beginning June 19, 2024.

Current Requirements for the 2025 Door County Fair - As of 2/22/2025

Please note requirements may change at any time. The Fair Board, 4-H Liaison, UW Extension, Dairy Superintendent, Fair Veterinary and many others are working closely with DATCP to stay up to date on requirements. We will communicate as efficiently as possible any changes that occur. We encourage you to visit this page frequently for the latest up to date information.

As of 6/19/2024 - All Lactating Dairy Cattle will need a negative Influenza A test to exhibit at a fair. Test must be taken no earlier than August 8th, 2024(7 days prior to movement to the fair). (The state is currently estimating a 72 hour turn around on results) You will need documentation of negative test prior to unloading any cattle at the 2024 Fair.

We encourage you to reach out to your Veterinarian with any questions and to schedule testing.
