Beach Monitoring
Door County Public Health contracts UW-Oshkosh to test up to 55 beach sites for bacteria June through August. Beaches are tested one to four times per week depended on usage. Advisories and closures are issued for elevated levels. This program began in 2003 as a provision of the BEACH Act.

Bed Bugs
Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) investigates hotels and other commercial establishments for suspected bed bug cases.

- Well Water Test Kits are available at the Door County Government Center; view the Well Water Testing and Resources Brochure for complete information.
- WellTAP - Free well water testing is available for eligible households through the WellTAP Program. Eligibility includes pregnant persons, families with children (12 and under), and persons with a weakened immune system. The well must be at their primary residence and a financial or other burden prevents the well user from testing on their own.

Lead Safety
Door County Public Health offers free blood lead tests to screen children for lead exposure. Education and follow-up are provided to reduce exposure.
Rabies Prevention - Animal Bite Investigation & Follow-Up
Door County Public Health follows up on all reported animal bites, confirms rabies vaccination status of domesticated animals, and ensures quarantine protocols are followed. Rabies testing is performed at the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene. For questions about rabies, please visit the DHS algorithm. Radon Test Kits
Short-term radon test kits are available for $10.00 at the Door County Public Health office. Short and long-term test kits for Northeastern Wisconsin are available through the Manitowoc County Health Department.
